Clark to Build Edmonson Plaza, Preserve Historic Building

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Carr Properties selected Clark Construction Group to build Edmonson Plaza at 1701 Duke Street in historic Old Town Alexandria. The scope of work includes constructing a 115,000 square-foot Class A office building, 77,000 square feet of below-grade parking, and preserving an adjacent 19th-century building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Three sides of the office building will feature brick masonry, metal panels, and punch windows. The building's southern facade, which faces the historic building, will showcase a double curtain wall.

The project team will incorporate numerous sustainable elements into the project, including a green roof intended to reduce the building's heat island effect. Low volatile organic compound (VOC) materials will enhance the air quality for tenants and visitors.

Clark began construction on Edmonson Plaza in August. Substantial completion is scheduled for the first quarter of 2010.

SmithGroup, of Washington, D.C., is the project architect and MEP engineer.

Other project partners include Theobald Bufano + Associates, of Arlington, Va., structural engineer; and Bowman Consulting, of Chantilly, Va., civil engineer.
