Clark Companies Secure New Work Across the Country

Bethesda, Md. – In the first quarter of 2014, Clark Construction Group, along with its subsidiary, Atkinson Construction, have been awarded a number of new projects across the United States.

In a joint venture with McKissack & McKissack and Old Veteran Construction, Clark was awarded a $203 million contract to develop the Malcolm X College Campus in Chicago's Medical District. The project, which anticipates earning LEED Silver certification, features a 500,000 square-foot academic building that contains classrooms, teaching and computer labs, general administration space, as well as common areas. The building also will feature a gymnasium, natatorium with a 25-meter pool, 250-seat theater, fitness center, library, bookstore, and a cafeteria. The basement level of the structure will house mechanical equipment and provide extra office and storage space.

The new 150,000 square-foot Bioengineering Building at the University of Maryland will mark the thirty-third project Clark will construct for the school. Located on the university's College Park campus, the high-tech building will feature optical laser and imaging laboratories, electromagnetic and radio frequency interference shielded spaces for sensitive equipment, and a vivarium. The facility will be constructed on a parking lot north of the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building, also constructed by Clark. Design is underway and construction will begin during the first quarter of 2015. Substantial completion is scheduled for 2017.

As part of the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program, Atkinson Construction is constructing new ramps that will connect the existing lanes of SR-99 to the north entrance of the future SR-99 tunnel. Integral features of the SR-99 tunnel’s north portal are the reconnection of the street grid and improved access between neighborhoods, as well as improved water and sewer lines in the area.

Verde Point, a new 10-story residential and retail mixed-use development, will feature 177 residential units and 23 townhomes, as well as a 14,000 square-foot Mom’s Organic Market. Amenities at Verde Pointe include a rooftop deck with a pool, game room lounge, fitness center, residential lockers and storage units, and a dog washing room. The $80 million project is expected to be completed by summer 2015.
