Take 5 with Nelson Melgares Garcia

Nelson Melgares Garcia is a cement mason with Clark Concrete currently working on The Stacks, Phase 1 project. Read about his most memorable project and what he likes best about working in construction.

Tell us a little bit about your background.

I am from Santa Rosa de Lima, El Salvador. I am happily married and have two children.

How long have you been with Clark? 

8 years!

What made you want to pursue a career in construction? 

It is the best pay that exists and has amazing benefits for its employees. We come to this country to work hard and keep pushing forward. Learning a trade allows us to make sure we have a steady income. 

Did you have previous construction experience? 

Joining Clark was my first time in the construction industry. 

Tell us more about your current role. 

As a cement mason, I fix any defects that could possibly appear on anything concrete related to the project.

What is your most memorable project? 

St. Matthews Redevelopment, completed in 2018. I was a finisher mason during this project. I liked working on a church; the concept made it enjoyable. I also liked that the development included a condominium with unique features, such as a rooftop pool. By this point, I had already gotten the hang of working in construction and was getting good at my craft.

What is your proudest accomplishment? 

I am proud that I still have so much energy to work in a challenging field like construction. 

What is your favorite thing about working in construction? 

The process of construction is fascinating to me. I like that we get to help others live a better life through the projects we build, which in turn allows us to live in a better world. 

What is your favorite thing about working at Clark? 

The benefits that we receive and the fact that Clark always has countless job opportunities.
