Biosolids Processing Facility, Addition No. 8
Howard County Department of Public Works and Bureau of Utilities
Clark Civil's Water Group will provide preconstruction services for the Biosolids Processing Facility, Addition No. 8, at the Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant. The services include processing equipment selection, maintenance of plant operations (MOPO) planning, constructability and value engineering reviews, estimating, GMP development, and schedule development.
Once in the field, the team will construct the Dewatering and Drying Building as well as renovate existing process structures while the plant remains fully functional. To ensure operational continuity, the team will develop a MOPO plan, detailing required temporary treatment operations, and project sequencing, to maintain wastewater flow throughout the plant during construction.
The Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant currently produces 35 tons of biosolids each day. The existing biosolids process utilizes lime stabilization of undigested primary sludge and waste activated sludge to create Class A solids. The Addition No. 8 upgrade will eliminate the need for lime stabilization, and add anaerobic digestion, direct heat drying, centrate treatment, enhanced odor control facilities, and other process and electrical upgrades. Once the upgrade is complete, biosolids leaving the Little Patuxent facility will be of high enough quality to be used on local farmland and by the community.
The project will utilize the Envision Rating System — a sustainable rating system for heavy civil infrastructure projects — and is seeking Gold certification.
The Biosolids Processing Facility is Clark's second project at the Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant. The company completed Addition No. 7 in 2012.
