Year Completed:
Clark will renovate the 57,000 square-foot student dormitory, which was originally built in 1928. The project team will perform seismic upgrades to the foundations and reconfigure new student rooms with a suite layout. The scope of work also includes the addition of apartment units for the University’s resident director and deans. The team will focus on preserving and restoring the building’s historic library, lounge, and dining areas. Additionally, a 4,200 square-foot, mixed-used space will be constructed to house a student game room, back-of-house kitchen area, loading dock, and mechanical rooms.
When complete, Bowles Hall, which was the first student dormitory in the University of California system, will be leased and operated by the school’s alumni. The public-private partnership between the developer, Education Development Realty, and Bowles Hall Foundation will be the first of its kind in the country.
Substantial completion is scheduled for August 2016.
