CNA Headquarters is a 140,000 square-foot interior office space located inside 3003 Washington Boulevard. The headquarters is the operations center for the non-profit corporation, which provides research and analysis to the government, specializing in national security, defense, and public interest issues. The Clark team provided the general contracting fit-out services for the space that is unique in its high-security requirements, which included man-bar installation and a complex data transmission system that allows secure network management within the CNA infrastructure.
The scope of work for the CNA Headquarters fit out featured an eight-story monumental stair, a comprehensive secure data package, demountable partition office fronts, and security hardware that included X09 locks and carder reader access to secure spaces. The modern style of the steel stair is complemented by the naval-centric finishes, which feature back-painted glass elevator lobbies, steel base and reveals, wood veneer wall paneling, bright blue, yellow, and green paints and accented carpets.
One of the most difficult aspects of the project was the compressed schedule and massive mid-project design modifications. Construction started in June 2013 and was complete and move-in ready for the employees of CNA by the end of May 2014. Nearly two months into the project, as the Clark team prepared for ceiling close-in inspections, major mechanical and electrical changes were issued which modified the majority of the above-ceiling and in-place MEP work. Quick action and subcontractor coordination allowed the design changes to occur with minimal impact to the overall project schedule.
As a result of successfully managing an already tight schedule with owner changes, the CNA staff was able to move in on time within one-week of receiving the final inspection certification from Arlington County.
