M-1 Rail Streetcar Overhead Catenary System
Stacy and Witbeck awarded C3M Power Systems a $4 million contract for the M-1 Rail Streetcar Overhead Catenary System in Detroit.
The project team will complete the overhead catenary system and traction power feeders for the M-1 rail project, a 3.3-mile circulating streetcar along Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. The team also will provide vehicle charging stations along off-wire portions of the route for charging the batteries of the vehicle onboard energy storage systems.
When complete, the M-1 Rail will provide more miles of off-wire track than any other streetcar in the country and will be only the third streetcar in the nation to include off-wire segments. Additionally, the project will be the first streetcar system to provide vehicle charging stations.
Installation will be performed between March and September 2016.
The M-1 Rail Streetcar will open to the public in Winter 2017.
