Chantilly, Virginia
Client:
Virginia Department of Transportation
Contract Value:
$67,800,000

The Route 50 Widening project will expand Route 50 from four to six lanes for 3.7 miles from Poland Road (Route 742) to Sulley Road (Route 28).

In addition to the expansion of Route 50, Shirley Contracting will widen and reconstruct the existing bridges over Cub Run, add a ten-foot-wide, shared-use path on each side of the road, perform improvements to eight signalized intersections, and build four new stormwater management facilities.

The project requires acquistion of right-of-way from 68 parcels, including one relocation, and environmental permits. In addition, there is extensive coordination and relocation of facilities owned by 15 different utility companies, as well as coordination of waterline relocations with Fairfax County Water Authority. Shirley will administer the quality assurance and quality control and coordinate public involvement.
