Argonne Energy Sciences Building Earns Chicago Building Congress Merit Award

CHICAGO – The Energy Sciences Building (ESB) at Argonne National Laboratory recently earned a Chicago Building Congress (CBC) Merit Award. Since 1956, CBC has been honoring outstanding projects in the greater Chicago area for excellence in craftsmanship, innovative design, exemplary safety records, and impact to the local communities. Established in 1939, the trade organization's members include real estate professionals, general contractors, subcontractors, engineering firms, architects, labor unions, associations, government entities, educational facilities, banks, insurance providers, consultants, legal firms, accounting firms, media publications, material manufacturers, and suppliers.

Clark led the construction efforts on the 160,000 square-foot research facility, which includes a mechanical penthouse. The ESB, which anticipates earning LEED Gold certification, features 50,000 square feet of laboratory space. Designed to accommodate scientific research rooted at the subatomic level, this space is isolated from acoustic, vibration, or electromagnetic interference.

Clark's project team had an exemplary safety record on the project – with more than 450,000 manhours, the Argonne ESB did not record a single lost-time incident.
