Atkinson's Brandon Dully Named Project Manager of the Year by AGC of Washington
June 11, 2014
SEATTLE – Atkinson Construction Vice President Brandon Dully was recently named Project Manager of the Year by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Washington. The award recognizes a project manager from among its 2014 Construction Excellence Award winners who has shown superior skill and creativity in bringing a complex project to completion. Atkinson's I-5 Skagit River Bridge Emergency Replacement earned the Highway and Transportation Excellence in Construction Award.
In May 2013, Span 8 of the I-5 Skagit River Bridge collapsed when an oversized load struck the steel truss. Washington State Department of Transportation awarded Atkinson the contract for the emergency replacement project. Mr. Dully led the effort on the bridge replacement; mobilizing equipment, subcontractors, and more than 75 craftsmen on site within 24 hours of the collapse.
In one month's time, Mr. Dully and his team removed the debris from the Skagit River, repaired damage to the remaining bridge spans, and installed a temporary replacement. The temporary replacement section for the I-5 bridge over the Skagit River carries two lanes in each direction. Atkinson installed two 160-foot Acrow structural steel Bailey bridge spans. The connection was paved, striped, and equipped with new reduced speed limit signs.
Atkinson's crews and subcontractors performed more than 23,000 hours of work in just four weeks, and without a single lost time incident.
