Clark Awarded Contract for National Mall Turf Restoration and Irrigation Project

Bethesda, MD – Clark has been awarded a $21.5 million contract for the second and third phases of the National Mall Turf Restoration and Irrigation project. This latest project marks the last two planned phases to rehabilitate turf on the 684-acre National Mall from 3rd  to 14th streets N.W.

The project, scheduled for completion in 2016, includes the replacement of the remaining five panels between 7th and 14th streets N.W., the section of the turf most frequently utilized by visitors to the National Mall. The scope of work consists of installing handicap accessible granite curbs, replacing the grass panels with engineered soil to resist soil compaction, regrading grass panels to improve drainage, installing drains and underground cisterns to collect storm water, installing a new irrigation system, and enhancing hardscape for event use.

Clark led the $15.3 million first phase of the turf restoration effort, which included the replacement of three lawn panels and the addition of drainage and irrigation systems on 13 acres between 3rd and 7th streets N.W. The project was completed in 2012 in time for President Obama’s second inauguration.
