Clark Employees Educate Children Across the Country

Bethesda, MD – Clark's partnerships with schools and organizations around the country help to educate and empower our youth — while showcasing our expertise in construction at the same time.

Last month, several of the company's Mid-Atlantic Region employees partnered with kindergarten students at Glenallan Elementary School, located in Silver Spring, Maryland, to 'Build a City'.

Using household craft materials, the students built eight structures to form a mini city. Clark volunteers pitched in to help the young engineers ensure that their structures were sound. When complete, the city had all the makings of any metropolis including a gas station, a fire and police station, a school, a subway station, a library, a shopping center, and housing.

At the end of the day, Clark's volunteers judged each structure for stability and creativity. The winning structure will represent Glenallan Elementary in a competition among other elementary schools.

One of Clark's Chicago office employees attended a local preschool to teach students the ins and outs of construction. Having recently served on the project team for the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Expansion and Renovation project, his presentation focused on how to build a real hotel.

Children watched a time lapse video of the Hyatt during construction, looked at the hotel blueprints, and learned about various types of construction equipment and the part each plays in constructing a building.
