Clark Hosts Take Your Child to Work Day
May 5, 2014
Bethesda, Md. – In late April, more than a hundred children from the Mid-Atlantic Region donned their hard hats in preparation for a day at the office as part of Clark's 2014 Take Your Child to Work Day. The annual event, which offers children a first-hand look at the world of construction, was open to both the children of employees and the company's local clients.
The children began their work day by partaking in one of Clark's core values — giving back. They filled care packages with toys, crayons, pencils, and other fun items for kids receiving care at Inova Hospital.
The young "engineers" then headed to the Inova Women's and Children's Hospital jobsite to check on Clark's construction progress. After a meeting with Clark Foundation to discuss their underpinning strategies, the children focused on another essential building component — concrete. Having placed more than 36,000 cubic yards of concrete on Inova, experts from Clark Concrete guided the children through their first concrete pour using pre-made cookie dough, chocolate chips as aggregate, and pretzel sticks as rebar. Once the concrete was placed, the group met with a few members of the safety department to learn how Clark ensures safety on the jobsite.
The Take Your Child to Work Day participants concluded their day with an ice cream social at Clark's Bethesda headquarters.
