Clark to Lead Construction of East County Bus Maintenance Facility
September 15, 2014
El Cajon, CA – Clark has signed a $22 million contract with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) for the East County Bus Maintenance Facility. This will be Clark’s second contract with SANDAG and will qualify the company to bid on future opportunities designed to expand the rail and bus systems throughout California.
Under this contract, Clark will construct a bus maintenance facility, administration building, bus wash facility, and a compressed natural gas fueling facility adjacent to an existing metropolitan transit system (MTS) operating facility. The project will be completed in three phases, allowing MTA to continue to operate and maintain its 82-bus fleet during construction. When complete, the maintenance facility and administration buildings will feature a metal-panel façade with ribbon windows and architecturally exposed cast-in-place concrete walls. Designed by Parsons Brinckerhoff, the maintenance facility will contain a glass clerestory to allow natural light into the 10 maintenance bays. The project also will include the installation of vehicle lubrication equipment, bus wash equipment, and vehicle lifts, greatly increasing both efficiency and capacity at the facility.
The project is designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification and will feature a 120kW photovoltaic roof panel system.
Substantial completion is scheduled for Summer 2016.
