ABERDEEN, Md. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Baltimore District awarded Clark Construction Group, LLC, a $229,296,000 contract to build the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) Replacement Facility in the Edgewood area of Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Harford County, Md.
The USAMRICD Replacement Facility will be the U.S. Department of Defense's lead laboratory for medical chemical defense research. The facility will house about 300 employees who will be involved in developing, testing, and evaluating medical treatments and materials to prevent and treat casualties of chemical warfare.
Clark's scope of work includes core and shell construction of the 526,255 square-foot facility, as well as the complete fit-out of interior laboratory and support spaces. The building will include chemistry laboratories built to meet Biological Safety Level 2 standards, as well as command headquarters, offices, and training facilities. In addition, Clark will manage the installation of medical gas and conventional utilities, electrical services, and sitework.
The USAMRICD Replacement Facility is designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification. The project will include several components to increase water efficiency and no potable water will be used for irrigation. The project's sustainability plans also include diverting more than 50 percent of all construction waste from landfills and earning all four credits for the use of low-emitting materials.
Construction of the USAMRICD Replacement Facility will begin this fall with completion expected in summer 2013.
