CRC Team Hosts Small Business Outreach Event
February 7, 2014
Bethesda, MD – Design and construction efforts are in full swing on the Dulles Metrorail Silver Line Phase 2 project. Last week, members of the Capital Rail Constructors (CRC) project team hosted an opportunity event at the Crowne Plaza Dulles hotel in Herndon, Va., to speak with local small business owners and representatives about subcontracting opportunities on the $1.2 billion rail extension project.
Nearly 40 businesses participated in the outreach event, which included an overview of the project, an introduction to CRC team, and a review of the project schedule and trades involved during the different phases of the four-year project.
Wes Stith, CRC’s DBE Compliance Manager and head of Clark’s Subcontractor Development Group, addressed the crowd, speaking specifically to the project’s DBE requirement, and the important government regulations that accompany it. Mr. Stith also touched on the steps required to win work with the CRC team, and the criteria the JV team uses when identifying the right subcontractors for the job. In closing, Mr. Stith outlined the formal programs and support Clark offers local CBE and DBE firms, to help build their capacity and enable them to secure work.
Adam Rosmarin, Clark Vice President and a member of CRC’s leadership team, followed with a discussion about upcoming bid opportunities. The Silver Line’s next large bid will be held this spring; corresponding bid documents will be released in March. The CRC team has plans to host additional events to provide more details on this bid opportunity.
To close out the event, CRC representatives held a brief Q&A session before breaking into one-on-one conversations with attendees.
Capital Rail Constructors is actively seeking certified and qualified vendors and subcontractors from the greater D.C. area, to participate on the Silver Line, Phase 2 project. To address the project’s specific DBE requirement, businesses must be DBE certified by VAUCP or MWAA. Project opportunities also are available for CBE, MBE, and other certified small businesses.
The CRC team has plans to host outreach events every other month until the end of the year, including:
March: Outreach for April bid and matchmaking with first tier subcontractors
May: Outreach for June bid and matchmaking with first tier subcontractors
July: Outreach and matchmaking with first tier subcontractors for remaining bid items
* Events also will be held in September and November
